About 港麗 Take Eat Easy

Nestled in the heart of Berkeley at 2465 Bancroft Way, 港麗 Take Eat Easy has been a culinary bridge between Hong Kong’s vibrant food culture and California’s diverse dining scene since its founding in September 2019. This unassuming yet bustling eatery specializes in delivering the essence of Hong Kong’s street food and comfort dishes, meticulously crafted to satisfy both traditionalists and modern palates. From the first bite of their signature Roast Duck Rice Bowl—where crispy-skinned duck meets fragrant jasmine rice—to the sweet-savory balance of their BBQ Pork Rice, each dish reflects a commitment to authenticity. The menu expands beyond Cantonese classics, offering Singapore Chicken Rice infused with aromatic pandan leaves and Japanese staples like Unagi Don, showcasing the restaurant’s versatility in pan-Asian cuisine.

Vegetarian diners find solace in thoughtfully curated options that avoid compromise, such as tofu-based bowls and vegetable stir-fries that retain the umami depth characteristic of Hong Kong cooking. The beverage selection pays homage to the city’s iconic drink culture, featuring milk tea brewed with evaporated milk for a silky finish and lemon iced tea sharpened with fresh citrus. Take Eat Easy’s approach balances tradition with convenience, catering to students, professionals, and families seeking quick yet memorable meals. The restaurant’s location near UC Berkeley makes it a hub for late-night cravings and midday refueling, with portions designed to satisfy hearty appetites without sacrificing quality.

Operational efficiency shines through their takeaway model, though the aromas of roasting meats and simmering sauces often tempt patrons to linger. Reviews consistently highlight the tenderness of the char siu, glazed to a caramelized perfection, and the Singapore Chicken Rice’s delicate broth—a testament to the kitchen’s attention to detail. Seasonal promotions, like the 40% discounts available through delivery platforms such as Fantuan, further cement its reputation as a community staple. By blending Hong Kong’s culinary heritage with Berkeley’s innovative spirit, 港麗 Take Eat Easy has carved a niche where nostalgia meets contemporary dining, one rice bowl at a time.

The restaurant’s success lies in its ability to adapt without dilution. While the menu nods to Japanese and Singaporean influences, the soul of the operation remains rooted in Hong Kong’s cha chaan teng culture—a fusion of East and West that mirrors Berkeley’s own multicultural identity. Phone orders (+1 510-816-1686) often buzz with requests for combo meals, where roast duck shares the plate with BBQ pork, offering a symphony of textures and flavors. For those exploring Asian comfort food, the Unagi Don emerges as a sleeper hit, its eel glazed in a teriyaki-style sauce that crackles slightly under a broiler’s heat.

In a city celebrated for its gastronomic diversity, 港麗 Take Eat Easy distinguishes itself through specificity. It doesn’t attempt to cover all of Asia but instead focuses on perfecting a curated selection of dishes that evoke Hong Kong’s bustling dai pai dongs and hawker stalls. The vegetarian options, often an afterthought at similar establishments, receive equal care, with marinated mushrooms and braised tofu standing in for meats without losing the dish’s essence. This inclusivity extends to their pricing strategy, which positions the restaurant as an accessible luxury—a place where a $15 roast duck rice bowl feels indulgent yet reasonable.

As the sun sets over Bancroft Way, the glow of Take Eat Easy’s kitchen continues to draw crowds, its steam tables filled with freshly roasted meats and pots of simmering broths. The restaurant’s story is one of cross-cultural dialogue, where every ingredient—from the star anise in their master stock to the jasmine rice sourced for its floral notes—serves as a mediator between Hong Kong’s past and Berkeley’s present. Whether through delivery apps or in-person visits, patrons leave not just satiated but connected to a culinary tradition that thrives on reinvention.

i have never had this bad of food poisoning in my entire life. this has genuinely been the worst week of my life. i went on tuesday night right before closing so I'm not sure if I was given left-out meat or something but i have felt nothing but a constant nauseous pit in my stomach, fever, diarrhea, chills, CONSTANT tiredness, headache, and now constipation. this was my first time trying the food and i will not be going back. service was very sweet i can't lie but i fear nothing can make up for what i have been put through physically and emotionally this week.

went here because nothing else was open. they only were serving 5 things out the menu and we paid 50 dollars for 3 people. the food looked questionable and did not look appetizing AT ALL. the taste was alright. it was a lot better after we added chili oil and soy sauce. kind of reminded us of cat food TBH. would not come here again this is just MY personal experience. the buns were good tho. we got the #5 pork and shrimp because they had nothing else prepared..

Very delicious authentic Asian cuisine. The pork and duck combo were magnificent. The owner/operator is super nice. Hong Kong ice milk tea is a great sipper on a hot day. I'm not sure about seating, but I took it to go, so it wasn't an issue. Very reasonable prices.

Awesome lunches. Food was tasty with good mix of sweet and savory flavors. The sauces in Hai Nan Chicken were delicious. Eel rice bowl came with seaweed salad and corn- what a great refreshing combo. Update: visited the new location at the student hall. Spacious sitting areas and more food options including dim sum and other snacks items. Very good value and nice portion.
